Vaseline Lip Tins

Vaseline : Lip Tins

Vaseline had an exciting ask: raise awareness of their new covetable, retro-inspired Lip Tins. Inspired by the iconic packaging, we gave them a Pop Art style social campaign.

iconic packaging

Vaseline Lip Tins are perfectly pocket-sized pieces of art. They’re playful, bold, and eye-catching–just like the iconic style of Pop Art. By borrowing key elements from this striking style, we’ll feed the “gotta have it” impulse and position Vaseline’s covetable Lip Tins as the must-have lip accessory. Because, let’s face it, there’s no such thing as too many Lip Tins.

OUR VOICE

The Lip Tins voice is a modern spin on the iconic speech bubbles of the Pop Art world. She’s flirty, playful, and just a little dramatic. Her theatrical accounts of getting her hands on the newest lip essential are as entertaining as they are convincing.

For her, it’s about having a Lip Tin for every moment.

social creative strategy

Drive that “Gotta Have It” factor by boldly showing off the iconic, desirable packaging and tying Lip Tins with Vaseline’s heritage of healing, highlighting that Lip Tins can truly heal dry lips.

Introduce the full line to our community by positioning them as trendy pieces of Pop Art, literally putting them on a pedestal, showing them off them like pieces of art in a Pop Art inspired gallery.

POP! MWAH! OH MY!

Visually, colors & patterns played a crucial role in achieving the Pop Art look. Colors were meticulously chosen, using our tin’s color compliment to furnish their Pop world.

Tone & voice played an equally pivotal role in the campaign. Actionable and convincing copy such as “Buy All Four” created an urgency to purchase. Direct copy such as “Hello!”, “New!” and “Wow!” introduced the product, followed by clearly communicated claims. Playful copy such as “Pop!”, “Smack!” and “Mwuah!” was entertaining to our consumer, yet also paid homage to how copy was traditionally treated in Pop Art.

GET LOST IN POP

Visually, we wanted to create a Pop Art world, leaning into the retro-inspired, covetable packaging. Facebook and Instagram carousels provided resourceful tools, allowing us not only to create an online catalogue, but also feed storytelling. The post above alludes to our girl in her Pop world. Upon opening her tin, a “POP!” sound jumps off the screen, highlighting the action. She applies the product and kisses goodbye to her dried lips.

STOP MOTION

Stop motion was the chosen style of animation as it’s whimsical nature not only paired well with our playful look and voice, but also re-introduced some vintage flare to this current take on Pop Art. Animation of the tins was meticulously concepted, ensuring that all the essential parts of the packaging & product were showcased.

Additionally, animation allowed us to further push our messaging of “gotta have it”, such as the example above - a purse filled with many tins of all variants, creating a need state for collecting these new enticing, one-of-a-kind products.

It may look easy to create a Pop Art world, however, every part of our creation was hand-built, shot, and then edited & rendered in post. Each bit of animation was created in the traditional stop-motion way of meticulously moving every new motion frame by hand.

Here is a sneak peek behind the scenes.
